"The strategy followed by the Syrians and their allies is one that can’t stand the test of legitimacy or even brutality for any length of time. There will be increasingly capable opposition forces. They will from somewhere, somehow, find the means to defend themselves as well as begin offensive measures."
Hillary Clinton, sounding like she knows something we don’t this morning in London. (via thepoliticalnotebook)
They will find from somewhere, somehow the means to defend themselves?
Well, either Syrians are headed somewhere over the rainbow, the skies are about to start raining cash and weapons that Assad’s forces can’t catch, or - well, here we go.

Deadly attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists are being carried out by an Iranian dissident group that is financed, trained and armed by Israel’s secret service, U.S. officials tell NBC News, confirming charges leveled by Iran’s leaders.
The group, the People’s Mujahedin of Iran, has long been designated as a terrorist group by the United States, accused of killing American servicemen and contractors in the 1970s and supporting the takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran before breaking with the Iranian mullahs in 1980.
The attacks, which have killed five Iranian nuclear scientists since 2007 and may have destroyed a missile research and development site, have been carried out in dramatic fashion, with motorcycle-borne assailants often attaching small magnetic bombs to the exterior of the victims’ cars.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Obama administration is aware of the assassination campaign but has no direct involvement.
…“The relation is very intricate and close,” said Mohammad Javad Larijani, a senior aide to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, speaking of the MEK and Israel. “They (Israelis) are paying … the Mujahedin. Some of their (MEK) agents … (are) providing Israel with information. And they recruit and also manage logistical support.”
Moreover, he said, the Mossad, the Israeli secret service, is training MEK members in Israel on the use of motorcycles and small bombs. In one case, he said, Mossad agents built a replica of the home of an Iranian nuclear scientist so that the assassins could familiarize themselves with the layout prior to the attack."

Right. Israel. Come on. Playing with fire here.

"I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money; I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money."
Republican presidential candidate (and Iowa’s number two) RICK SANTORUM, who apparently thinks everyone who receives government assistance is African-American.
A GOP candidate that’s homophobic AND racist? No one is surprised anymore.
You have got to be kidding me. Okay, first of all, only about one third of TANF (one kind of cash welfare that goes to families with kids) recipients are black. Second, EVERYONE would prefer that folks have the opportunity to make money on their own. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the economy’s gone to hell, and it’s not easy to get a job. It’s particularly not easy to get a job if you went to terrible schools, and you have to deal with gangs and guns everywhere you go, and when you have kids to support that you can’t leave when you go to an interview, and you can’t afford a nice outfit to where to an interview, and you have to rely on buses to get you there on time (which almost never works), and you have few marketable skills, and no access to the Internet to look for jobs, and no phone where employers can get ahold of you, and so on and so forth. Third, given that we can’t give every single unemployed person a job in the private sector by snapping our collective fingers (or really by any means), seems like letting people starve or sleep on the streets in the richest country in the world is the definition of heartlessness.
Congratulations, Santorum. In one sentence you managed to be heartless, racist, and wrong.
ETA: Gingrich is similarly horrible.
