– Eric Boiling, adding to his ever-growing long list of offensive statements as a Fox News correspondent.  Video (via reallyfoxnews) Fun fact: Rape is not a synonym for rob or plunder. Also, bonus fun fact: raping, plundering, and robbing are not made less horrible by the perpetrator first giving...

– The New, Nasty Obama Campaign (via The Atlantic) I don’t know. Not everyone is quite so sure the 2008 campaign was so positive. (Nor that it should have been.) I suppose they arguably tried the “post-partisan thing” in actual governing, and that obviously did not work out.

This could go very badly
So, I danced for 14 years, and was on pointe for six of them. But the last time I put on pointe shoes was, uh, four years ago. I’ve been meaning to get back into it for basically all four years, and I’m going to take classes this summer. Rather than starting reasonably with some getting-back-to-basics stuff, however, I’ve somehow managed to let myself get talked into a pointe...

I have a favor to ask of all of you
Pre-law school, I worked at a nonprofit supporting foreign-born victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. The Violence Against Women Act *literally* saves the lives of abuse survivors and their children. People would have died without the visa and financial support VAWA provides. Every person in the U.S. deserves this protection.  If Americans can do anything at all, surely we can agree...

PSA: What To Do When You Spill Liquid On Your...
This keeps happening to friends. I don’t know if I bring a curse or what with me, but people keep spilling stuff on their computers, and right around exams too. They then turn them off, turn them upside down, wipe them off, wait a few hours, and then turn them on because they really want to know if they’re working.  All fine, till you get to the part about turning it on again. If you...

Mom: *starts crying*
Me: Mom, she's just going to be like a 30 minute subway ride away.
Mom: I know, but she'll be so busy!
Me: Yeah, but it's not like I when I was three hour plane ride away. It won't be that bad.
Little Sister: Awww, I'm going to miss you too, Mom. I always suspected you loved me more than Liz.
Mom: I just can't believe my little AlliMac is moving out!
Little Sister: A subway ride away.
Mom: Dad and I are going to really miss you, is all, honey.
Little Sister: I can be a total bitch from now till August, if that would help.

Answer: Because we assume men will work hard, do work no one else wants to do, and learn to play golf. Or at least we assume they know that if they want to succeed in this particular business-sphere, that’s what they need to do. Evidently WSJ thinks ladies can’t figure that out. So look, listen up, WSJ. You seem confused as to why women aren’t getting ahead. Well, spoiler alert:...

Ah yes, studying for crimlaw
You know, pre-law school, I figured the law re: rape was that if someone said no and you continued, that was rape. Turns out that’s not true! You need nonconsent, yes, and sex, obviously, but you also need “force.” Now, I’d have thought that in the absence of consent force is required to get someone to do something. But huh, turns out that the “force incidental to...

This is really, really, really good.  Fascinating input into Obama’s decision-making, phenomenal tick-tock of how it happened,  a great reconstruction of the days leading up to and after, plus random tidbits, like how Obama did not tell his wife, nor did Hillary tell Bill a damn thing. FLOTUS found out right before Obama made his speech, and Obama called Bill Clinton after he called Bush...

On Satirizing the Media
seecircumlocutory: So, I’ve been thinking about the media lately, as the title would indicate. And, I can’t seem to make up my mind about something. On one hand, I look at all the satire and irony and think it’s prepping for change. Or, more elegantly put, it’s protest within the system. However, on the other, I think it’s just part of the system; it has a symbiotic relationship with what it...

Maybe I'll pull a Scalia for my conlaw exam
Just type up the Constitution word-for-word, then add: “To answer all of these questions, just READ the Constitution and apply the PLAIN MEANING of the words. I mean come ON. Get a dictionary if you need to. Just use the plain/obvious/original meaning of the words. Stop being all judicial activist-y.” Then I’ll slam down my laptop and storm out of the room.
